After a few defeats over the last few weeks, the U14 Tier 2 team got back to winning ways with a 27 run win over Wonersh & Shamley Green.
Batting first on a glorious evening at the CCG, Cranleigh racked up 158-6- off 20 overs - the best performance of the season so far against a good bowling attack. Josh (34) and Freddie (41*) gave the innings a great platform and this momentum was maintained by Noah and Will OB. But just when a massive score looked likely, W&SG fought back in the last 5 overs with some excellent death bowling.
In reply, W&SG got off to great start reaching 30-0 off just 3 overs, with both openers batting very impressively, but after the skipper started to rotate his bowlers the brakes started to be applied. Patrick bowled a fantastic spell of 4-0-12-0 that really strangled the innings, and he was backed up by Noah, Will M and Oscar - the latter taking 2 wickets with his economical spin. The run rate kept going up and the bowlers held their nerve and discipline as Will OB, Wilfred and Eleanor (1--11) and Wilfred all helped bowl the team to victory!
In the end Cranleigh won by 27 runs but it seemed a lot closer than that - W&SG were a strong side who batted and bowled really well - so a great victory for the Lightning!
