Another sad time for Cranleigh Cricket

We are very sad to announce that John Parry passed way on 29th August after a long illness.

JP, as he was affectionately known, was a fiercely proud Yorkshireman, and a keen supporter of both Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Sheffield United FC.

JP played for both Cranleigh Cricket clubs, initially at the Common, before joining St Andrews in 1968. He was a steady and reliable opening batsman, excellent slip fielder and occasional wicket keeper. He was a dedicated committee member, also served as chairman and was a life Vice President of the club. Amongst his many achievements was the organisation of the club’s annual cricket tours to the West Country.

When his playing days ended, he became an excellent umpire, standing in many Surrey Championship and I’Anson Cricket League matches.

The photograph shows John seated on the extreme left of the front row, prior to the start of the President’s X1 v St Andrews X1 game in 1994.

Our thoughts are with Betty, Michelle and Jonathon.
